Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair Features Level State Changes

July 24, 2019

Playtonic Games and Team17 have released a new trailer for the upcoming Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair.

Announced at E3 2019, Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is a sequel to 2017’s Yooka-Laylee. The game is primarily a 2.5D platformer, though the main overworld will be a 3D sandbox environment. Capital B returns as the game’s main baddie, this time enslaving the toughest bees in the Royal Stingdom to create the Royal Beettalion Guard which our favourite lizard and bat duo must rescue.

The trailer showcases level state changes, which is where players can alter a level’s environments and hazards by completing certain actions in the overworld. An example is soaking a level’s entrance in water which causes certain sections to become submerged, allowing for Yooka and Laylee to swim. Another example is connecting an air vent which causes an updraft of wind for the duo to ride through an urban environment.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is expected to be released late this year on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.
