Today is the day of Wii U – Launch plans tonight

September 13, 2012

And if it isn’t, it sure as hell feels like it.

Over the next twenty four hours, Nintendo will be hosting several events across the world, each and every one dedicated to the Wii U. A grand total of four events are on show. Yep, four.

First up is a Japan specific Nintendo Direct. Hosted by Nintendo President Satoru Iwata, the event aims to cover Wii U launch details specifically for the Japan region. That includes date, price, and additional system information. It is scheduled to screen at 4PM JST (GMT +9), and will be viewable online here. Note that it will be entirely in Japanese, so unless you’re savvy with the local tongue, or have a translator on hand, you won’t understand a word Iwata says.

The last three events, though separate, all occur at the same time. In the US, Reggie Fils-Aime will be hosting a Wii U event for the local press, where price, date and other goodies will be revealed. That event will be live streamed to the rest of the world here. In Europe, NOE  President Satoru Shibata will be hosting a PAL specific Nintendo Direct. Europe too will be getting launch details, and both Australia and New Zealand will have their launch plans announced shortly after. Nintendo Australia will be hosting a live stream of the Nintendo Direct here. And lastly, Japan will be receiving a second Nintendo Direct. Again hosted by Satoru Iwata, this special will focus on first and third party software for the Wii U. It will be screened, again in Japanese, here.

All three of these events occur simultaneously late tonight. Those planning planning to stay up and watch, and be the first to learn Australia and New Zeland’s Wii U launch plans, can find out what time these events will live stream locally via this handy link. Check your city, and get ready to multi-task between three tabs.

Rocket Chainsaw will be sure to report on all local Wii U news as soon as it becomes available. To tease the NOA event, Reggie has released a short video message you can check out below.
