January 13, 2013

The Sunday edition of RC’s gaming news makes its first appearance for 2013, which means that the ratings season can’t be too far away. Or something.

  • In an interview with PC Gamer, Team Fortress 2 lead developer, convicted Australian and hat fanatic Robin Walker reveals a number of interesting facts about the game. First up, the popular online hat simulator has made more money via the Mann Co. store since going free-to-play than it ever did through direct sales. Walker also revealed that they intend to speed up the pace of importing items into the game, and also that top item creators make six figures from their hats TF2 items.
  • Speaking of free-to-play hat simulators FPS games, PlanetSide 2 is getting a major update later this month. The major focus is rebalancing the game’s XP system to make it more rewarding and improve player progression through the game. There will also be some UI updates to better show where the action is on the map, and to make score-per-minute the primary metric for comparing player performance.
