The Coalition has today launched the largest ever update for Gears of War 4: Rise of the Horde, and best of all it’s free. The update brings 15 New Skills, Level 6 Skills, 2 New Difficulty Levels, 20 New Achievements and more.

Gears of War 4 is one of Microsoft’s main Play Anywhere titles, a program which allows you to play your game on both Xbox One and Windows PC platforms, continuing your progression on whichever platform you choose.

Horde mode is getting the biggest changes in this update, with three new skills for each of the five classes. Both new and existing skills can also now be taken to Level 6. Check them out below:

Flow – Take reduced damage while repairing fortifications

Overclock – Increase the rate which Weapon Lockers replenish ammo

Salvage – Enemies killed by your sentries have a chance of dropping ammo magazines

Thick Skin – Take reduced damage from explosions

Berserker – While carrying a heavy weapon you deal more damage as your health gets lower

Last Stand – While carrying a heavy weapon you take less damage as your health gets lower

Dodge – Take reduced damage while roadie running

Speed Loader – Roadie running will reload your equipped weapon automatically with Active Reload rounds

Cloak – Being stationary and in cover for seconds will cloak you from enemies – leaving the cover or shooting will remove the cloak. Shoot enemies from Cloak for a small damage boost.

Steady Hand – Take less damage and have reduced camera shake (when being attacked) while aiming or scoping

Magic Bullet – Critical hits with precision rifles (Longshot, Markza, EMBAR) penetrate through enemies and increase the damage of the next shot

Called Shot – Targets you mark take increased damage from all sources

Siphon – Planted grenade kills cause enemies to drop more Power

Resupply – Regenerates one grenade every [X] seconds (up to starting loadout number)

Assault Rifle Accuracy – Assault Rifles become more accurate the longer they are fired while in cover

Bosses will now drop loot in horde mode when you complete wave 30, 40 and 50. Random Horde Skills will drop, with the harder difficulties increasing your chances of getting rarer skills. There is also a new UI feature showing how many power drops are left on the field.

Players will also enjoy two remade maps from Gears of War 2 and 3 as part of the free update. The maps will be available for season pass holders immediately, while regular players will have to wait until June 13.

AVALANCHE

The Gears of War 2 map you know and love is back. Set in a mountainside resort, this village sits below a mountain with an unstable build-up of snow at its peak. During the match, the snow avalanches onto the battlefield, killing anything in its path and changing the entire middle of the map. Prepare to fight for the Boomshot the moment the snow falls.

RUST LUNG

This returning map from Gears of War 3 brings an intense close-quarters flavor to this month’s map drop. Cover in the middle of the map can be dropped or raised with the press of a button – sneak around your opponents flank to give them a nasty surprise as their cover disappears from right in front of them!

There is also a host of new player rewards given to you as you progress through the levels online. Progression rewards mostly include Trainee Packs from level 2 to level 30, which will further assist your progression.

The Coalition has also created two harder difficulty modes: Inconceivable and Ironman. These new difficulty modes are available in both the campaign and horde mode, and tie in with the new 500 points worth of achievements to unlock. The 20 new achievements are listed below:

Last but definitely not least, The Coalition has revealed that Gears of War 4 will have a free trial period running from June 9 to June 15, 2017, as well as double XP for classes and 20% extra XP in Horde matchmaking, meaning there has never been a better time to try the game.
