While Gears 5 released back in 2019 (Check out our review of the game here), it has quickly had a resurgence in sentiment during the last couple of months. This has come courtesy of a couple of announcements. The first of these was the game’s update and port to the Xbox Series S and X, which made the already fantastic looking game that much more special. The second of these was the confirmation that it would receive new DLC in December titled Hivebusters.
What we didn’t know when Hivebusters was announced was exactly when it would release and would it would entail. Now we have confirmation of both. Hivebusters is a story based DLC expansion, which will include roughly three hours of gameplay. It follows Lahni, Keegan and Mac, who you may already know as the characters from Gears 5’s Escape mode, in their first mission with the Hivebuster program. You’ll travel to a new location, the volcanic Galangi islands, all the while fighting Swarm and a new deadly predator. It also introduces Ultimate abilities into a Gears campaign and can be played in up to three player co-op online or via splitscreen.
Gears 5: Hivebusters releases on December 16th for $29.95 and will be playable for free for active Game Pass Ultimate subscribers on PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. For more information, check the official website.
