Super Meat Boy: The Game Is Coming To Mobile Devices

April 1, 2012

Team Meat have just announced their new project, Super Meat Boy: The Game. The game is planned for release on iOS. It seems that the recent hints and rumours that they had a game in development for mobile devices had some truth to them. They’ve made a post about it on their website, where they assure us that although they’d have liked to simply port Meat Boy to the iPhone platform, they felt that it would be the wrong thing to do. Instead, they’re remaking the entire game, from ‘the ground up’. Team Meat offered us our first look at the game, with the picture below:

Commenting on what we can expect from this new Meat Boy game, they said:

We just started working on it so I’m sure a lot will change as development unfolds, but we do have a few major talking points of what the game is and what the game isn’t.

What the game is:

– A feature length touch controlled platformer SPECIFICALLY designed for Touch devices.

What the game isn’t:

– a shitty port of an existing game with non tactile buttons spread all over the screen blocking the players view and making for frustrating controls.

– the Super Meat Boy you’re used to, there are aspects of Super Meat Boy in there, obviously, but this is a brand new game with new art, new sound, everything.

So, it sounds as though we’ve got plenty to look forward to. Don’t worry though, the game won’t be restricted to iOS only. Team Meat confirmed via their Twitter account that the game will also see a wider release, though they didn’t go into specifics. They’ve promised that we’ll see more updates on the game soon. Rocket Chainsaw will keep you up to date on any new developments.
