Gamescom 2020: World of Warcraft Shadowlands Release Date Revealed

August 28, 2020

UPDATE: World of Warcraft: Shadowlands is launching on November 23/24. Read the announcement here.

World of Warcraft is set to launch its eighth expansion in October, with the Shadowlands release date officially announced today via a blog post with a new trailer.

The last expansion, Battle for Azeroth, saw players level up to 120, double the original cap of 60, however Blizzard has revealed that there will be a level squish in Shadowlands with characters reverting back to level 50, and having to level up to 60 once more.

Review scores and the game’s player base have been on a steady decline over the past few expansions, so Blizzard is looking to reboot the game while still keeping all of its lore. New players as well as those that haven’t touched the game in a while will find leveling and playing in the new WoW to be a very different experience to what they remember.

Blizzard also launched WoW Classic a little less than a year ago, which we gave 4.5 stars, predicting that, “WoW Classic’s continued success will largely depend on its community.”
