Variety reports that Legendary Entertainment have acquired the film rights to Pokemon.
The company is teaming up with The Pokemon Company to release the first ever Pokemon live-action film. The film will be based on the Detective Pikachu game, which was released in Japan early this year but has yet to receive a Western release.
Not much else is known about the project but it is apparently being fast tracked to start production in 2017. Toho will handle distribution of the film in Japan while Universal will handle distribution for the rest of the world.
