Next Batman Game, Gotham Knights, Announced

August 23, 2020

It’s been years and supposedly rough waters since Warner Bros. Games Montreal last released a new game. In fact, it’s been almost seven years since they released Batman: Arkham Origins. Rumours have been floating around for months that they were gearing up to reveal a brand new Batman game, with the studio themselves gradually beginning to tease the game and ourselves predicting this last week. Now, Gotham Knights has officially been revealed with a world premiere trailer and a longer gameplay trailer

Gotham Knights is instantly recognisable to those who have played the past few Batman games, but there’s a couple of twists here. The first of these is that there is no Batman, with Bruce Wayne’s death being the trigger for this game. Instead, you play as one of four characters (and here’s the second twist) by yourself on in co-op with a friend. With Bruce Wayne’s death a summons is sent out to Batgirl, Robin, Nightwing and Red Hood to take over the cause and keep Gotham City safe. Each has their own unique weapons and abilities, including means of traversal. The game still looks to follow in the footsteps of past entries in the franchise, with plenty of action combat, stealth and rooftops to traverse along the way. The Court of Owls were also confirmed as the game’s villains via a short section right at the end of the world premiere trailer. It was also confirmed that the game will be a cross-generation release.

There’s still a ways until release with Gotham Knights releasing in 2021 for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X. In the meantime, check out the trailers below and the official website.
