What (Games) To Expect At DC Fandome

August 16, 2020

As we get further and further from what would once have been E3 and closer to what is still (albeit digitally) Gamescom, the number of announcements coming from developers and publishers has slowed to a trickle. It’s clear that some are waiting for Gamescom and Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live to roll around before dropping new announcements, meaning that we’re suddenly in the dark one again. The only publisher that doesn’t seem to be waiting is Warner Brothers Interactive, who are taking part in DC Fandome, an online expo filled with DC announcements.

We already have confirmation of a couple of games that will be there, but many of Warner Brother’s developers have been quiet for a while, so there’s likely to be a few more announcements dropping as part of the show, and with a number of ‘To Be Announced’ timeslots showing in the schedule, there’s definitely more to come. Here are what games we expect to be at DC Fandome:

Next-Generation Games Galore

While there are no guarantees here, rumours have been pointing to Warner Brothers being full steam ahead on developing games exclusive to next-generation consoles. Even if there are games coming to current generation consoles at the show, expect the next-generation versions to be shown at every possible point, allowing the developers to put their best foot forward.

Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

This is one of two games that have now been confirmed for the expo. After a long five year wait since Batman: Arkham Knight was released, we’ll finally get to take a look at a new Rocksteady game. Rumours have pointed to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League being a massive co-op/online GaaS game akin to Destiny, as opposed to the single player adventures we’ve been used to from Rocksteady so far. Either way, we should know soon enough.

Batman: Gotham Knight

The second game confirmed for DC Fandome is Warner Brothers Montreal’s latest entry in the Batman series of games. Rumoured and teased to be based on the Court of Owls comic series, Batman: Gotham Knight looks to be another gritty game in the series, where Batman will combat a secret crime organisation filled with the rich and powerful. We expect this to be quite similar in style and flow to the Batman Arkham quadrilogy of games, so we’re pretty excited to see it.

Injustice 3

Netherrealm have been one of the most reliable developers of the generation, churning out high quality games every 12-18 months with no signs of slowing down. We expect that to continue with a third game set in the in the DC fighter series. Given the success of Injustice 2 and the alternating series of releases Nehterrealm have employed since MK vs DC, we’re expecting this to be their next game, with the only concern being whether or not DC Fandome is the right venue to announce the game.

LEGO Something

Traveller’s Tales is the other developer in WB’s stable that has reliably churned out games year after year. In recent times, they’ve regularly alternated between internal IPs such as Batman and DC Supervillains and external IPs like The Incredibles and Star Wars. With LEGO Star Wars releasing later this year, it wouldn’t be out of the realm of possibility for them to be at DC Fandome announcing next year’s game, especially given they would normally announce them around E3 each year.

There you have, that’s what you can expect from DC Fandome from a gaming perspective when it kicks off at 3AM AEST on Sunday August 23rd. It runs for 24 hours, with announcements likely to come all the way through it, so stay tuned to Rocket Chainsaw for all the announcements and reveal.
