Big news today from Variety. According to their sources, Ubisoft has gotten cosy with acclaimed actor Michael Fassbender, whom intends to work with the company on a cinematic adaptation of the popular Assassin’s Creed franchise.
Best known for work in Inglorious Basterds, X-Men: First Class, and most recently Prometheus, Fassbender is reportedly set to both star in and co-produce the film. Though still very early on, Ubisoft has chosen to develop the film at the newly founded Ubisoft Motion Pictures, are studio dedicated to in-house adaptations of video game franchises. Ubisoft hopes UMP will allow the company maximum creative control over projects, in contrast to previous work such as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, where the collaborative production company retained control.
Ubisoft has yet to decide on a distributor for the eventual Assassin’s Creed film, and UMP is still looking for a writer and director to attach to the project.
