Ghost of Tsushima Launch Trailer Shows Massive Mongol Invasion

July 14, 2020

PLAYSTATION and Sucker Punch Productions have today released the Ghost of Tsushima launch trailer. In the late 13th century, the Great Yuan Mongol empire sailed from Korea to the island of Tsushima to begin their assault on Japan, an invasion that would forever change that part of the world and see over 100,000 mongols killed at the hands of Japanese Samurai.

It’s an area of history that hasn’t been explored much in the west, so we’re excited to see how Sucker Punch (Infamous, Sly Cooper) portrays the Feudal period of Japan’s deep history. Ghost of Tsushima will allegedly be realistic in that a couple of direct hits with a sword will kill you, but that also means a skilled Samurai will be able to tear through Mongols without much effort, which you’re going to need to be able to do if the ships shown at the end of the Ghost of Tsushima launch trailer are anything to go by.

Ghost of Tsushima is not a direct 1:1 re-creation of the island of Tsushima, but is instead based on the general structure of the island and inspired by locations on it as well as locations throughout the rest of Japan.
