Call of Duty studios on 3 year development rotation, Sledgehammer in 2014

February 8, 2014

Activision has announced three main studios will now be working on their annual Call of Duty franchise. Each studio, comprising Treyarch, Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer, will each have three years to develop a title in the best-selling shooter franchise.

Previously, Infinity Ward and Treyarch developed the game on an alternating two-year schedule. Sledgehammer Games was formed in 2009 by ex-Visceral Games and Dead Space developers Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey.  They co-developed Modern Warefare 3 with Infinity Ward, but shall be handling this year’s Call of Duty game all on their own. Treyarch will release their next game in 2015, and then Infinity Ward in 2016.
