Trent Reznor to compose Black Ops II theme

July 10, 2012

Always knowing where to best spend those big production bucks, Activision is once again roping in famous musical talent to compose the soundtrack for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. And, according to USA Today, the theme for Black Ops II will be scored by none other than Trent Reznor.

Though best known as the headlining musician for Nine Inch Nails, the last few years have seen Reznor experiment with the film industry, aiding composition of scores for David Fincher’s The Social Network and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Reznor’s collaboration with Treyarch came about from contacts made during work on the aforementioned films, along with Treyarch’s desire to steer away from typical orchestral scores associated with the Call of Duty series. Though elements of orchestral work will be found in Black Ops II, Treyarch and Reznor hope to introduce a more ‘modern’ sound with modern instruments.

Reznor’s work on the main theme will accompany the rest of the game’s score, which is being composed by industry veteran Jack Wall, best known for Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow.

Call of Duty: Black Ops II will launch on 13 November 2012 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A PlayStation Vita spin-off is also in the works, and a Wii U release is rumoured to launch around the same time.
