Xbox this morning has revealed in a news post on the Xbox Wire page that fans planning to purchase upcoming titles on their Xbox One that are also planned to launch on the Xbox Series X next-generation console will be able to carry their save progress over through the Xbox Smart Delivery service.

It is important to note that PlayStation is yet to announce any similar offering for their Playstation 4 to Playstation 5 migration, while Electronic Arts has said they will have their own version of the service which includes a time limit clause. For example, players that purchase Madden NFL 21 on Xbox One before December 31, 2020 will get access to it on Xbox Series X until March 31, 2021 and will then be locked out.

Xbox Smart Delivery was announced in February this year, and will mean that players can purchase a variety of games on one platform and get free access to play it on the other. This means fans don’t have to wait for games like Cyberpunk 2077 or Assassin’s Creed Valhalla to get their next-gen launch, and you won’t be out of pocket twice.

In the news today however, Xbox furthered their commitment to the Xbox Smart Delivery service, stating players will be able to carry their save progress over to the other platform. This is great news for those that want to enjoy the games at launch and not start over on the next generation. Recent Assassin’s Creed titles have been known to offer lots of post-launch content via new quests and expansions, so the ability to carry your main save across into the next generation should be appealing to most.

Xbox also revealed that some games which launch on both platforms simultaneously such as Halo Infinite will only need to be purchased once to be enjoyed across both platforms. This works great for fans that put a next-gen Xbox Series X in their home theatre while moving their Xbox One to the lounge or rumpus, and gives you extra options to stay in the game no matter what’s happening in your house.

Here is the current list of known games supported by the Xbox Smart Delivery service:

Halo Infinite
Cyberpunk 2077
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla
Destiny 2
DiRT 5
Scarlet Nexus
Chorus
Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Yakuza: Like a Dragon
The Ascent
Call of the Sea
Gears 5
Second Extinction
Metal: Hellslinger
