August 19, 2022

Dungeons & Dragons future was a key feature of today’s Wizards Presents stream, which included some key announcements about the future of the game including its next generation One D&D form, and Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen which combines a new adventure with a new board game.

  • One D&D is the current codename for the next generation of Dungeons & Dragons, imagined as an experience that brings together updated rules, backwards compatibility with 5th Edition, D&D Beyond and a digital experience running on Unreal Engine, that allows Dungeon Masters and players to create atmospheric environments and highly detailed miniatures to create a tabletop experience remotely. Playtesting for One D&D starts today, with sign-ups at DnDBeyond.com
  • Dragonlance: Shadow of the Dragon Queen is a new 224 hardcover page adventure, returning to the classic Dragonlance setting, the world of Krynn, depicting the clash of the forces of the dragon queen Tiamat and the realm of Solamnia. It’s envisioned as a high-stakes adventure right out of the gate, as your heroes battle world altering forces. Lord Soth, a classic Dragonlance character, will also feature. In addition, a board game called Warriors of Krynn will be part of the deluxe edition, and allow players to experience a single campaign across both mediums. The standard edition, available with standard and alternate covers available only through game stores, will arrive on 6 Dec 2022, while the Deluxe Edition containing the adventure, board game and an exclusive Dungeon Master screen will be released on 28 Feb 2023. Early access is also available on 22 November, via preorders at dndstore.wizards.com

  • Spelljams, a 19 track album featuring music from various artists including Reggie Watts, Magic Sword, Mikaeala Davis and MonoNeon, is currently available now for digital download and streaming. The album, produced by Chris Funk, features music inspired by Spelljammer: Adventures in Space and adventure gaming, and a vinyl artifact edition is also available via pre-order.

  • Looking ahead, further adventures scheduled include Keys from the Golden Vault in Q1 2023, described as basically Ocean’s Eleven meets D&D, in an anthology of short adventures revolving around heists. Bigby Presents: Glory of the Giants is due for Q2 2023, as a companion to last year’s Fizban’s Treasury of Dragons. The Book of Many Things in Q3 2023, Phandelver Campaign in Q3 2023 as well ‘tinged with cosmic horror’, and a return to Planescape in Q4 2023.
