Transformers 40th Anniversary Event announced for AU Cinemas

2024 is the 40th anniversary of the original Transformers cartoon series, known popularly today as ‘Generation One’ or ‘G1’ , and Hasbro has announced a cinema celebration in Australia happening in May.

Starting Wednesday 15 May, and continuing for 18 and 19 May, special evening screenings will showcase a variety of material celebrating the anniversary. Included is a look back with Peter Cullen and Frank Welker, the original voices of Optimus Prime and Megatron, along with a behind-the-scenes table read presented split-screen with the first episode of the original show, More than Meets the Eye Part 1followed by the next three episodes of the series, and an exclusive sneak peek at the new season of Transformers: Earthspark. The event is a way for long-time Transformers fans to finally see the original show on the big-screen, and is taking place at a range of locations across the country.

The celebration will be kicked off by two VIP events, one at George Street Event Cinemas in Sydney, and one at Jam Factory Village Cinemas in Melbourne, at 5:45 PM on 15 May (with a 6:30 start). Attendees to these two VIP events are encouraged to bring their favourite merchandise or come in cosplay, as prizes will be available on the night to those who show off their fandom on social media.

Beyond the cinema events, there will also be 18 Family Fun Day events held across Australia on May 15, 18 and 19, at these locations:

  • Mt Gravatt (Garden City), Brisbane, 11am

  • Indooroopilly, Brisbane, 11am

  • Marion, Adelaide, 11am
