Play Overwatch Free on All Platforms Next Weekend to Celebrate One-Year Anniversary! (UPDATED)

Blizzard Wants You! … to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Overwatch next weekend, and by doing so they are allowing anyone and everyone to try the fast-paced first person shooter for free. The free weekend will commence on May 26, and finish on May 29, 2017, right in the middle of the Overwatch one-year anniversary celebrations.

Join 30 million players in what promises to be a memorable weekend of action, and then continue your journey in Overwatch in the midst of the one-year anniversary event which begins in just a few days time.

Blizzard has also revealed that a Game of the Year edition of Overwatch will also launch with the anniversary event, for those wishing to purchase the full game. Read on to find out what you’ll get in the Overwatch Game of the Year edition!

The free weekend is available for all platforms, and all that is needed to play is a Battle.net account for Windows PC, an Xbox Live Gold account for Xbox One, or a PSN+ account for PlayStation 4. The proper Overwatch Anniversary event will begin when the free weekend ends on May 23rd, and run through to June 12th, 2017. This special anniversary event will provide players with an array of new items including emotes, skins, voice lines, and more.

Players that purchase the Overwatch Game of the Year edition will get the following bonus items, which in typical Blizzard style offer players items across a few of their titles:

  • 10 Loot Boxes with random items such as credits, skins, emotes, poses voice lines, sprays and highlight intros.
  • Mercy’s wings for Diablo 3 players
  • Tracer for Heroes of the Storm
  • Hero Skins: Vintage skins for Blackwatch Reyes, Strike-Commander Morrison, Overgrown Bastion, Security Chief Phara, and Slipstream Tracer.
  • StarCraft 2 in-game Portraits of Bastion, Tracer, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier: 76, and Winston.
  • Overwatch-themed Hearthstone Card Back
  • Baby Winston pet to use in World of Warcraft
  • Overwatch-themed card back for Hearthstone

Overwatch launched last year on May 24, 2017 on Windows PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Rocket Chainsaw gave Overwatch 5 stars, saying “this is the absolute state-of-the-art when it comes to multiplayer first-person shooters right now, and it’s likely it will be for years to come.”
