EA Play 2018: Battlefield V goes Battle Royale

June 10, 2018

Battlefield V

EA kicked off the weekend before E3 2018 with their own EA Play event at the Hollywood Palladium, and they’ve already confirmed one of my E3 predictions – Battlefield V is going Battle Royale.

The mode was only mentioned briefly at the end of the presentation as being added to the game after launch, but follows a trend of other large franchises following the trend set by PUBG and Fortnite, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops 4.

Along with this announcement, other aspects of Battlefield V were confirmed. In a seeming nod to the controversy surrounding Star Wars Battlefront II last year, there will be not loot boxes or premium pass. However, soldiers and their weapons will be able to be customised, both for gameplay and for pure cosmetics.

EA also confirmed players will be able to dive and smash through windows to surprise enemies. Where defenses in previous games were stationary, you will now be able to go mobile and move them around. The destruction system that allows tanks to tear through structures like houses also returns.

The single-player campaign of the game will be called ‘War Stories’ and is inspired by the untold human stories of men and women who shaped the world in World War II. There will be more on this mode in the Xbox Briefing tomorrow, with a trailer focusing on ‘Nordlys War Story’.

Finally, a new cinematic trailer showcasing a fierce aerial battle, and some tender human moments.
