While many ANZ players are patiently waiting for a safe and official way to order a Steam Deck in our countries, Asus has swooped in with their own handheld PC product, the ROG Ally, which they have announced will be available from 13 June, with pre-orders open now both at JB Hi-Fi and Asus’ e-shop.
The system is along the same lines of what you might be aware of from the Steam Deck – a visually Nintendo Switch-esque console which houses a mini-PC, capable of playing Windows 11-supported games such as from Steam, or Game Pass. The model available on the shelf in Australia and New Zealand is the Z1 Extreme/512 GB storage option, which will go on sale for AUD$1,299 and NZD$1,499 on 13th June.
Among the features the ROG Ally boasts is a 120hz Full HD 1080p screen, along with a Zen 4 processor, 16GB of RAM and a UHS-II microSD card slot for storage expansion. It also supports peripherals including a Charger Dock for connecting to a TV, and an XG mobile external GPU, which can house up to a laptop NVidia RTX 4090 for added graphics processing.
