September 20, 2021

As part of Melbourne International Games Week 2021, a free ‘Creative Exchange’ event has been announced that combines the world of games and technology with the world of fashion.

‘Fashion’s New Reality’ will take place from 2pm to 3:30pm AEDT on Friday 8 October, with several components. The first will be the results of the Digital Fashion Incubator, a program to showcase the experience of seven Victorian apparel and accessory designers as they explore what the latest in digital technology, such as AR and VR, can do for their business.

Three Victorian designers, Ngali’s Denni Francisco, Micky in the Van’s Estelle Michaelides and milliner Melissa Jackson tackled VR technology, while milliner Felicity Northeast, Human Chameleon’s fashion and costume designer Kristine Walker, jewellery designer and proud Wiradjuri woman Kristy Dickinson of Haus of Dizzy, accessory designer Courtenay Stolz of Maude Studio found uses for AR technology.

In addition, the event will also see these works showcased in the launch of ‘Semblance World’, a luxury shopping ‘metaverse’. A virtual platform, running on Unreal Engine, created by Roberta Annan and Badrriya Henry, the platform is meant to reimagine digital experiences for brands and consumers across the international fashion industry.
