Metal Gear Movie Announced

August 30, 2012

Right now, in Japan, Kojima Productions is holding a special 25th Anniversary party, event, thing for the company’s most famous franchise: Metal Gear. Twenty five years of Snake! Yep, it has been that long.

Promising a handful of announcements, the first big piece of news to come out is confirmation of a Metal Gear movie. Yes, yes, we’ve been hearing about a Metal Gear movie for years. But apparently this is the real deal.

Taking the stage next to series creator Hideo Kojima was Hollywood producer Avi Arad, best known for producing the original Spider-Man trilogy, series of X-Men films, and numerous other super hero films. Apparently a deal has been struck with the producer, and Colombia Pictures, to produce a fully legit Metal Gear film.

But don’t get too excited (as if we can stop you). No director, actors, screenwriter or anybody else has signed on for the film just yet. Kojima did let slip his ‘favourite’ industry workers though, including director Christopher Nolan, and actors Hugh Jackman, Matt Damon, and Ben Affleck. If Kojima has his way, you may see one of those names attached to the project in the hopefully not-too-distant future.
