Crysis 3 Announced

April 16, 2012

They say that all good things come in threes. German developer Crytek seems to be testing that old saying, as they today announce via press release Crysis 3 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, following up the original leak only a week ago.

Set an unspecified time after the events if Crysis 2, players return to the sandbox concrete jungle as Prophet, and once again find themselves hunting through the streets of New York. But this time there’s a twist. Antagonist group Cell Corporation has placed quarantine ‘nanodomes’ over various cities on Earth, including New York, transforming the interior into an overgrown jungle city hybrid, wrapping skyscrapers in vines, and paving streets and side walks with shrubbery. Though Cell Corporation claims the nanodomes serve to protect civilians, the truth of the matter is that Cell is after alien technology. And naturally (pun intended) it’s up to Prophet to stop them.

Powered again by Crytek’s CryEngine 3, players can expect similarly familiar gameplay to the past two titles, as Prophet makes use of his suit abilities and environments to take down both alien and human threats. New additions include a high powered composite bow for silent hunting, and new alien technologies to enhance the Nanosuit’s powers.

Crysis 3 is scheduled to launch in 2013 on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Those eager to put down money now can apparently do so over EA’s digital service Origin, allowing pre-order of the Crysis 3: Hunters Edition, the base game with a host of extra multiplayer unlock goodies.
