Thanks to the success of titles such as Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Deux Ex: Human Revolution, Square Enix has turned a tidy ¥6.06 billion (AU$75 million) profit for the financial year ending March 31. This is a massive turnaround for the company that suffered a ¥12 billion (AU$150 million) loss the previous year.

Company president Yoichi Wada had this to say:

“In the fiscal year ended March 31, 2012, we continued our efforts aimed at increasing profitability, including establishing best practices for the content in said growth areas, improving quality of our major online game, and strengthening our global structure. We are accelerating the reformation to generate a substantial earnings improvement in the fiscal year ending March 31, 2013 and beyond.”

That’s great news, which in turn will hopefully mean good games in the future.

I’m not expecting Hitman: Absolution to do as well as they might hope, but it should do okay. As long as they keep expanding the Enix branch and their Western portfolio I will continue to be interested in Square. Human Revolution was excellent so I’m eager to see what the team is working on next (if that leak is correct), as well as their second team working on Thief 4. Very interested in Tomb Raider from Crystal Dynamics too.

Good stuff. Except that picture of Vanille.
