Anybody following industry gossip knew it was coming, but now, via Game Informer, Medal of Honor: Warfighter has finally received an official announcement.

Sequel to 2010’s Medal of Honor reboot by Danger Close, and again from the developer, Warfighter looks to retain the same stop-and-pop military gameplay it’s predecessor was known for, while continuing a plot again centered around highly trained Tier 1 operatives.

Fans can expect the usual; a single player campaign centered around intense conflicts from behind enemy lines, and both competitive and co-operative multiplayer modes for those who prefer to play online, all powered by DICE’s Frostbite 2 graphics engine.

Medal of Honor: Warfighter is targeting an October 2012 release across Xbox 360, PlayStation3 and PC. We’ll no doubt hear more at EA’s GDC conference next month.
