XCOM: Chimera Squad Announced

April 16, 2020

Have you always been interested in XCOM, but you prefer a heavier story focus with unique characters instead of randomly generated ones? Well, Firaxis has announced a new XCOM made just for you: XCOM: Chimera Squad.

Shifting away from the worldwide focus of past XCOM games, Chimera Squad focuses in on a single city dealing with the ramifications of the ending of XCOM 2. The shift in focus looks to the pull the game in somewhat, creating a somewhat more streamlined experience that is still instantly recognisable as XCOM.

With XCOM: Chimera Squad comes a renewed focus on the tactics of the game. You’ll now have the chance to strategically place your characters prior to the start of a mission, giving you the ability to better plan ahead and strategise your initial approach to combat. Action order is now interwoven, with your characters and enemies taking turns individually instead of the all or nothing approach or past games. You’ll also have a range of unique character powers to leverage throughout missions, adding even more flavour to combat.

XCOM: Chimera Squad releases exclusive for PC on April 24th at a special introductory price of $14.97, with the price increasing to $29.95 after May 2nd, and is available to preorder on Steam now. In the meantime, check out the reveal trailer below:
