Worms Rumble Announced For PC, PS4 & PS5

Worms Rumble

If you’ve been around for as long as we have, you’ve probably heard of Worms before. The series has been around for 25 years at this point, with the titular cartoon worms murdering each other in 2D battlefields all the way through that time. It’s probably no surprise that there’s a new Worms game on the way, but what might be a surprise is the form it’s taking: a 2.5D real-time multiplayer shooter. Worms Rumble isn’t quite the Worms you know.

Worms Rumble looks to shake up the Worms formula in a way the series has never seen, eschewing the turn-based strategy elements of every previous game in the series and moving towards a hectic multiplayer shooter. The trailer shows off some fan favourite weapons from the series, but doesn’t go too in-depth on exactly what weapons you’re likely to find in the game so some of the zanier weapons may not make it (we didn’t see any fire punches or sheep for example, but the holy hand grenade did appear). You’ll also be able to customise your worm’s appearance with different costumes and outfits, although there’s no information on how you’ll earn these.

Worms Rumble has two game modes confirmed so far, with both Battle Royale and Deathmatch modes confirmed to be in the game, with each mode supporting 32 players. The game will also support cross-play across the three platforms it has so far been announced for. Team17 have confirmed that there will be destructible elements within the maps of the game, something Worms has been known for throughout its history, but that wasn’t shown during the trailer at all.

Worms Rumble will release for PC, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in late 2020. For more details, check out the official website.
