The Witcher Netflix series announced

May 17, 2017

The Witcher is to become a series on digital streaming service Netflix according to a release from Polish CG studio Platige S.A.

The franchise, which began life as a series of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski before being made into a series of critically acclaimed games from Polish developer CDProjekt, will transition to the world of on-demand streaming thanks to the efforts of Sean Daniel and Jason Brown. The two producers are behind the wildly successful sci-fi series The Expanse, itself adapted from a series of novels. “The characters are original, funny and constantly surprising and we can’t wait to bring them to life at Netflix, the perfect home for innovative storytelling,” the two said in a joint statement.

“I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” said Sapkowski, who will serve as a creative consultant on the series.

The series is currently in the early stages of pre-production and no firm date for a release has been announced at this stage.
