Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 Remaster Announced

May 13, 2020

We’re well and truly in the age of remasters, as developers and publishers the World over reinvigorate their most famous brands and products through visual improvements and re-releases. Given many of these projects have a much lower development cost than a brand new game, given aspects like the story and general design are already completed, it makes plenty of business sense and more successful remakes like Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Shadow of the Colossus have brought gamers on board as well. They’re not always slam dunks, but they’re generally worth the risk, and Activision are back again, this time with a remaster to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2.

Developed by Vicarious Visions, whose work on the N. Sane Trilogy has garnered much praise, the twin pack remaster brings the first two Tony Hawk games into the modern era. While we can’t know just how the game’s control, at least from a visual perspective the remaster looks to be a massive step up compared to Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater HD and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5, while the inclusion of the revert looks to address one of the big changes that was introduced by the later games in the series. All levels from the original games will be remastered, while the statement that the game will ‘include blockbuster songs from the original franchise’ leaves us thinking that some of the original licensed OST will be missing.

UPDATE: The game’s soundtrack has now been revealed and the track list can be viewed here.

Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 is up for preorder now, and will release on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 4. In the meantime, check out the announcement trailer below.
