The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD Flies Onto Nintendo Switch

February 19, 2021

2021 is a big year for the Legend of Zelda franchise, with the series hitting its 35th anniversary. It is a time for celebration and there’s no doubt that plenty of Zelda content is coming this year. While we unfortunately didn’t get an update on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 (a game we’re super excited for) at yesterday’s Nintendo Direct we did instead find out that The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is coming to Nintendo Switch.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword originally launched way back in 2011 for the Nintendo Wii. It was a showpiece for the Wii Remote Motion Plus add-on, utilising the more accurate motion tracking to introduce motion-based directional attacks into the game. With motion tracking hardware still being relatively simple, it led to an experience that wasn’t for everyone. Now, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD will finally introduce button controls to the game. Along with the new control scheme, the game will also introduce improved graphics and runs at 60fps, while the motion controls have been improved.

For those looking to use motion controls, there’s also a new Joy-Con set launching alongside the game. The themed Joy-Con feature motifs reminiscent of the Master Sword and Hylian Shield, the series two most recognisable pieces of equipment.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD and the themed Joy-Con release for Nintendo Switch on July 16th. For more information, check the official website.
