Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is the Fastest Selling Nintendo Console Game Ever

December 20, 2018

We already know that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is selling well overseas, with 3 million copies sold in the US in 11 days, 1.2 million copies sold in its first week in Japan and the biggest launch in franchise history in the UK, but what about at home? We often don’t hear much about how well a game sells in Australia, so when Nintendo of Australia released a PR statement regarding the game’s sales here, we just knew they had to be big.

Nintendo of Australia has confirmed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is not just the fastest selling Switch game to date, or even just the fastest selling Smash Bros. game to date, it is in fact, the fastest selling Nintendo console game ever in Australia. While that statement means there is obviously a handheld game or two above it – most likely some Pokemon games on the Nintendo DS – this means that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate has beaten the types of juggernaut launches that came along with the Nintendo Wii. We still don’t have any specific numbers of copies that were sold, but needless to say, they’re probably pretty large.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate released on December 7th, exclusively for Nintendo Switch.
