Cyberpunk 2077 Anime Being Developed By Studio Trigger

June 26, 2020

For announcements we didn’t expect out of last night’s Cyberpunk 2077 Nightwire event, an anime adaptation is pretty high up there. CD Projekt Red have announced that they’re teaming up with Netflix and Studio Trigger, the famed studio behind Kill la Kill, Little With Academia and Promare, to develop a Cyberpunk 2077 anime series.

Titled Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, the series is set in the same universe as Cyberpunk 2077, but it’s currently unknown if there will be any direct links between the two. Set over 10 episodes, Edgerunner tells the story of a street kid trying to survive in a world obsessed with technology and body-modification. He eventually decides to take a leap, becoming an Edgerunner (also known as a cyberpunk) in order to survive. While we don’t really know too much yet and the series is quite a ways away, given the quality of Studio Trigger’s body of work, it’s easy to get excited about just what this could end up becoming.

Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is scheduled to arrive at some point in 2022, so read Adam’s Gamescom 2018 preview of Cyberpunk 2077 and check out the trailer below. More details on the game can be found at the official site.
