Star Citizen Alpha 3.0 detailed at Gamescom

During a presentation at Gamescom over the weekend, Chris Roberts and his team demonstrated upcoming features for the next major update to Star Citizen. Aside from announcing a number of new ships and confirming that the Star Marine portion of the game would be available in the 2.6 patch, Roberts also showed off the upcoming 3.0 alpha, due at the end of the year.

In the presentation, Roberts’ team flies from the starting space station to a nearby planet, which they seamlessly land on. According to Roberts, there are no clip or draw distances in the game, so the engine tries to render as far as it can on the available hardware.

Here’s the full 90+ minute presentation. Skip to around 36 minutes if you just want to see the 3.0 alpha demo.
