THQ Nordic has announced they will be releasing a remaster of SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom in 2020 for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Officially titled SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated, it is unclear if the game will be a port with increased resolutions or if it will be a complete remaster with new assets and content.

The original SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom was released in 2002 on PS2, Xbox, GameCube, PC and GBA. While it received mixed criticism at the time, the game was regarded a financial success having sold an estimated 880,000 copies on the PS2 and 710,000 copies on GBA. Not bad for a cartoon tie-in!
