Splatoon 2 Release Date And Horde Mode Announced

April 15, 2017

Splatoon was a surprise announcement and hit when the game was originally revealed for the Nintendo WiiU years ago. Nobody really expected the game to be a massive hit until you put a gamepad in their hands and they got to experience the best new IP to come out of Nintendo in quite some years. It’s no surprise that Nintendo are following up on the game with a sequel for the Nintendo Switch, but everything we had seen so far looked relatively similar to the previous game.

Salmon Run is a brand new mode coming to Splatoon 2 which pits Inklings against salmonoid monsters in an ever increasing battle for the delicious power eggs (salmon roe) that are within the monsters. During the trailer we got a glimpse at multiple different enemy types, as well as a couple of different boss monsters to fight against, which also had their own special golden power eggs to collect. If you were hoping for a co-op experience to play with friends in Splatoon 2, this is exactly what you’re after.

Along with Salmon Run, Nintendo also revealed three new Splatoon 2 amiibos that will release alongside the game. Just like the original Splatoon amiibo, you will be able to get your hands on a new Inkling Boy, Inkling Girl and Squidling amiibo when the game releases. These amiibo will allow you to save your favourite loadouts, so you can easily take them to a friends house, as well as occasionally grant you unique cosmetic pieces.

Splatoon 2 and its new amiibo will launch for Nintendo Switch on July 21st, 2017.
