SNES Classic Edition Announced And Is Retro Gaming Heaven

June 27, 2017

When the NES Classic Mini was announced, were you like me? Filled with thoughts of what could be if Nintendo gave the same treatment to the SNES? Well, wonder no longer, as Nintendo of America have officially announced that the SNES Classic Edition is real and is coming soon!

Unlike it’s predecessor, the SNES classic edition will come with 2 controllers by default and the number of games has dropped to 21. While there’s less games, the quality has definitely increased with favourites such as Super Mario RPG, Star Fox 2 and Final Fantasy III. Now, while it wasn’t stated there, the listing for ‘Final Fantasy III’ is the game known here as Final Fantasy VI. The game was originally launched as 3 instead of 6 in the USA, with the game we know as Final Fantasy III being a NES game.

While the Australian release date and costs haven’t been announced yet, the SNES Classic Edition will release in the USA on September 29 for $USD 80, $USD 20 more than the NES mini.

UPDATE: Nintendo of Australia have confirmed firmed the SNES Classic will launch in Australia on September 30 for $119.95.
