According to Joystiq, EA’s upcoming revamp of SimCity will be sold through online content delivery platforms other than EA’s own Origin service. While the list of online stores that will sell the game is not yet confirmed, this should make those who prefer not to purchase things through Origin happy.

However, don’t start breaking out the bubbly just yet, as the game will still require Origin to play. According to lead designer Stone Librande, you will need to be online in Origin to play SimCity, even if you bought it from another service. While this is obvious for the multiplayer aspects of the title, it also holds true for the single player as well.

The new entry in the series, which is just going to be called SimCity, will be out sometime in 2013.
