July 22, 2020

Rocket League Update 1.78

That’s right, it’s now official that Rocket League will be moving to a free to play model, with full cross-progression within the next couple of months. Announced with a press-release, the new free to play update to the game will release by the end of this Summer in the Northern Hemisphere/Winter in the Southern Hemisphere. This will be the most significant update to the game since the recent 1.78 update altered some of the physics within the game.

As part of the Rocket League free to play update, there will be major changes to the Tournaments and Challenge systems in the game. Cross-platform progression is also being added for the player’s inventory, Rocket Pass progress, and Competitive Rank, by linking to an Epic Games Store Account.

Anybody that has previously played the game will also be given Legacy status, which includes the below bonuses:

  • All Rocket League-branded DLC released before free to play
  • “Est. 20XX” title that displays the year when the player first started playing Rocket League
  • 200+ Common items upgraded to “Legacy” quality
  • Golden Cosmos Boost
  • Dieci-Oro Wheels
  • Huntress Player Banner

The game will also debut on the Epic Games Store, with this version also supporting full cross platform play, while the Steam version of the game will be removed from circulation. Anybody that has already bought a copy of Rocket League on Steam will continue to have access to the game and will receive all future updates to the game as well.
