Epic Announces Rocket League Crates Are Getting Removed

August 7, 2019

As we reach the end of the 80’s themed Radical Rocket League event, today Epic Games and Psyonix have revealed that Rocket League crates will no longer be a thing later this year.

Loot crates have been under fire for well over a year now for their links to gambling and the fact children play games that contain them. Epic Games recently revealed that Fortnite’s Save the World mode will no longer have loot crates, and on the back of buying Psyonix, Rocket League will be getting the same treatment.

This does not mean all the items found in Rocket League crates will be gone however. There will be a new store where players can purchase either the items individually or in a bundle, so it’s looking like they might allow you to buy the entire contents of a crate at a discount price or individual items at a higher cost.

Details on pricing has not yet been announced, though we would be surprised if items are excessively priced given a Rocket League crate right now is under $2 AUD and can yeild exotic or even black market items.

No changes are expected to be made to the current Rocket Pass Premium, DLC Cars or Esports Shop items.

Rocket League is available on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and Xbox One platforms. Head to the official Rocket League website for more information.
