Razer Announces New Wireless Controllers and Headsets for PlayStation 4

August 21, 2018

Ahead of the wave of announcements sure to come when Gamescom 2018 opens later this week, Razer have announced that they will be expanding their range of products for the PlayStation 4 with the introduction of the Raiju Ultimate and Raiju Tournament Edition controllers, as well as the Razer Thresher for PS4 headset.

When I reviewed the original Razer Raiju controller last year, I lamented the fact that the controller only functioned when wired directly to the PS4 and that it lacked some of the customisation options of other premium controllers. Razer has heard that feedback, with the new Razer Raiju Ultimate and Tournament Edition controllers both supporting wireless connectivity, as well as allowing for wired connectivity to reduce lag in competitive settings.

The Raiju Ultimate also allows a wide range of customisation, such as remapping buttons, adjusting sensitivities, supporting Razer Chroma lighting, inter-changeable thumbsticks and an alterable d-pad. The Raiju Tournament Edition is somewhat more constrained, supporting just 4 remappable multi-function buttons and a Hair Trigger mode.

Alongside the Raiju Ultimate and Raiju Tournament Edition, Razer also announced a PS4 compatible version of their Razer Thresher headset. The Thresher supports wireless connectivity to the PS4 via a USB dongle, while it can be connected to other devices via the included 3.5mm jack. Frequent charges won’t be required, with the headset supporting up to 16 hours of battery life off a single charge.

The Razer Raiju Ultimate, Raiju Tournament Edition and Thresher for PS4 are all available right now via the official Razer Store and will come to other retailers during the Spring of this year.
