January 16, 2016

The highly anticipated Pokemon fighting game, Pokken Tournament, finally has an Australian release date of March 19th, as announced via news post by Nintendo Australia.

For those unaware, Pokken Tournament is a fighting game developed by Bandai Namco, with Katsuhiro Harada (The creator of the Tekken series) as the producer. The game allows people to play as a variety of different Pokemon ranging from iconic characters such as Pikachu, Mewtwo or Charizard to more obscure creatures such as Chandelure, in real time 3D arenas style fights. It launched in Japanese arcades in July last year, but in typical arcade fighting game fashion, is seeing a home console release with new characters, features and updates added.

As was previously announced, early adopters who pick up the first print run of the game will receive a special “Shadow Mewtwo” amiibo card that allows players to easily unlock Shadow Mewtwo without having to undergo any in game trial to do so.

Pokken Tournament’s Wii U launch is a key part of Pokemon’s 20th Anniversary celebrations taking this year as well being one of the systems first big game releases for 2016, meaning quite a few Nintendo fans are going to be counting the days from now until March 19th.
