Pokémon Goes Open World With Pokémon Legends: Arceus

February 27, 2021

The promise of Pokémon on a console came with one dream: Maybe we would finally get the massive open world Pokémon  game we always dreamed of. While Pokemon Sword and Shield’s Wild Area came close, they were a little too small to truly scratch that itch, while their DLC areas came another step closer to feeling truly open world. Now, we’re finally getting out wish, with Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

Developed by Gamefreak and slated for an early 2022 release, Pokémon Legends: Arceus is different from the standard Pokémon formula were used to. Instead of linear paths and caves, the game takes place in an open world set in feudal Sinnoh. Instead of fighting gyms leaders to collect badges, you’ll be travelling to the corners of the world to help build Sinnoh’s first ever Pokédex.

You’ll still have your choice of three starter Pokémon, but this time they’re from a spread of generations: Rowlett, Cyndaquil and Oshawott. Pokémon appear on the open world, while battles and catching of Pokémon also take place there instead of shifting to alternate battlefields like in past games. The game also looks to be a step up from the past games in the series graphically.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus will release for Nintendo Switch in early 2022. In the meantime, check out the trailer below or the official website.
