Pokemon Go update arrives, tests new “nearby” feature

August 10, 2016

On Tuesday morning Niantic released a new updated for Pokemon Go on the Apple and Google Play Stores.

Bringing the iOS and Android versions to 1.3.0 and 0.33.0, respectively, the update fixes a number of bugs for the app. Notably, the Battery Saving mode has returned for the iOS version and there have been accuracy improvements for curveball throws.

The patch notes also indicate that an improved “nearby Pokemon” feature is being tested with a select group of users. The folks at Eurogamer have uncovered images of the feature in action, with Pokemon now displaying a picture of a landmark they are close. There is also a more prominent icon placed on the map screen indicating their location. It is currently unconfirmed when the feature will be rolled out to all users.
