Planet Coaster: Console Edition Receiving Free Next Gen Upgrade

It’s been a while now since the folks at Frontier Developments released their spiritual successor to the Rollercoaster Tycoon series, Planet Coaster. Widely viewed as a fantastic theme park simulator, Planet Coaster was met with plenty of love from fans on PC. Now coming to consoles soon, Frontier have confirmed that Planet Coaster: Console Edition is getting a free next gen upgrade.

While Planet Coaster: Console Edition has already been confirmed as coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, it had yet to be confirmed if players who bought the current gen version would get a free upgrade to the next gen version. Now Frontier have outlined exactly how the Planet Coaster: Console Edition upgrade path will work. Owners of the digital edition of the game will receive a free upgrade on the same next gen family platform (eg. PS4-PS5). Disc owners will also receive a free upgrade, but only if you have a regular PS5 (not the digital edition) or an Xbox Series X, due to the disc needing to be verified. Makes sense right? The only thing we’re unsure of right now is if saves will transfer over on PlayStation consoles, an issue that has recently begun to raise its head.

Planet Coaster: Console Edition comes to PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S this holidays, with no specific release date confirmed as yet. For more information, check out the official website.
