Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Smashes Crowd Funding Goal

January 28, 2017

In the last 24 hours Obsidian Entertainment went from officially unveiling Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, to smashing their way through the $1.1million goal they had set on Fig and beginning to reveal stretch goals. Unlike most crowdfunding campaigns, Obsidian are using the same model that Larian have used before them, doing a large amount of production work prior to crowdfunding, with the funds secured expected to expand the game and make it a bigger and better experience.

Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire sees you return to Eora, following on from the ending of the first Pillars of Eternity. Eothas has returned and he has possessed the stone titan that was buried below your keep, Caed Nua. He tears his way out of the ground, destroying your keep and leaving you on the brink of death, and now it’s your mission to track him down to demand answers.

During your mission you’ll explore the Deadfire Archipelago, voyaging across both land and sea to the myriad islands to discover new cultures and environments. The people of Deadfire have lives of their own and follow their own schedules which continue while you’re not there. This leads to different opportunities being available depending on the time and environments where characters are approached.

You will meet a range of brand new companions in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, along with some returning familiar faces, as your Watcher from Pillars of Eternity continues their journey. The choices you made in Pillars of Eternity will be carried over to the sequel, with saves states being cross-system compatible.

With the initial goal being met, Obsidian and funders at Fig are now working towards their first stretch goal for Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire. When$1.4million is hit, which is expected to happen in the next couple of hours, subclasses will be unlocked. Subclasses will give you the option of further character customisation when creating your Watcher in the game.

If you’re interested in helping Obsidian fund Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire or just want to check out how the campaign is going, head on over to the Fig page and have a look.
