Perth is Australia’s worst city for the Zombie Apocalypse

May 23, 2018

To celebrate the release of State of Decay 2 on Xbox One, Xbox ANZ has teamed up with Melbourne University’s Centre for Disease Management and Public Safety (CDMPS) to create the Zombie Survival Index (ZSI).

From research, Darwin stands the best chance of survival while Perth is considered the most vulnerable city. To come to these conclusions, researchers took into account how citizens say they would act in certain situations (i.e. if they would care for strangers, where they’d hide or flee, etc) and how quickly the disease would spread based on geographical location and the number of ports.

Key stats that were released include:

  • Melbourne residents as most likely to form groups to tackle the apocalypse, seeing a higher chance of survival.
  • People aged of 45 and older are 19% more likely to go at it alone.
  • 17% of people would dress/act like a zombie while 3% would hide under their beds.
  • 31% of people deemed a hospital as a preferred shelter for the population.

Here is a overview map from the ZSI of how (most) major cities across Australia and New Zealand would fare.
