Nintendo Switch Lite officially announced

July 10, 2019

Following months of rumours and speculation, Nintendo has officially announced the Nintendo Switch Lite. It will launch on 20th of September this year and will be available in yellow, grey and turquoise colours. It has a suggested retail price of AU$329.95.

The Nintendo Switch Lite is a handheld only console – it does not connect to the TV like the regular Nintendo Switch console. The joycon controllers are also not detachable and do not support HD Rumble or the IR Camera. The left joycon on the Switch Lite also features a traditional dpad instead of the buttons like the regular joycon controllers.

All games that support handheld mode will work on the Nintendo Switch Lite, including fan favourites Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey. If you want to play games that use/require the HD Rumble, motion controls or the IR Camera you will need to purchase a set of regular joycon controllers.

The reveal video, which we have embedded below, showcases groups playing local multiplayer games with both the Switch Lite and regular Nintendo Switch console communicating with each other. So there’s full compatibility between the consoles where required.

UPDATE:

In a separate announcement Nintendo Australia have revealed that a special Nintendo Switch Lite Zacian and Zamazenta Edition console will be released on 8th of November, 2019. The console is primarily grey but features blue colouring on the left controller buttons and red colouring on the right controller buttons. The back features engravings of the legendary Pokemon Zacian and Zamazenta from Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield.

The standalone console will retail for AU$329.95. Be quick as stock is strictly while supplies last only.
