September 2, 2016

During their Nintendo Direct presentation, Nintendo revealed that they will be celebrating the Zelda franchise’s 30th anniversary by releasing four brand new Amiibo.

The Amiibos include an 8-Bit Link, Ocarina of Time Link, and Toon Link & Toon Zelda from The Wind Waker. They will work exactly the same as their Smash Bros. Collection counterparts, and will also be able to interact with the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild when it is released next year.

Available as of today is the new Spirit Tracks and Phantom Hourglass DLC for Hyrule Warriors: Legends on 3DS. The pack introduces Toon Zelda as a playable character, who inhabits a Phantom Guard. Toon Link also has a new weapon in the form of the Sand Wand, which can be used to attack enemies with sand blocks and unleash the power of the Spirit Train.

To top off the celebrations, Nintendo announced The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has also been released on the Wii U e-Shop via the Virtual Console. This is the original version of Skyward Sword and has not been remastered or enhanced in any way.
