It seems that GREE are slowly taking over the gaming world, and like Zynga, they’re doing it with social games. Unlike Zynga, they’ve gotten their hands on some major names, developing titles for the Final Fantasy, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona, Disgaea, Tales Of, and Metal Gear Solid franchises, and now they’re partnering with Square-Enix to develop a new game in their The World Ends With You series. A sequel to the 2008 Nintendo DS game has been hinted at a few times, most recently with a secret image contained in the ending of the game’s iOS port. It’s unknown whether this new game, titled World Ends With You: Live Remix, is supposed to be a sequel to the original game or simply a spin-off. What we do know so far is that it’s a social game for mobile devices, features songs from the previous game, and is described by GREE as “an easy way for players to enjoy The World Ends with You“. The game is set for release this winter in Japan (summer, for us folks in the Southern Hemisphere). In addition to the announcement, Famitsu have released the first three screenshots for the game, along with a picture that combines the three, which you can view below.
