New BioShock Game Under Development By New Studio at 2K

December 10, 2019

BioShock Infinite launched six years ago to critical acclaim and fans have been eagerly anticipating a new BioShock game only to be given tiny details over the years about an out-of-house studio Certain Affinity possibly making the next game. Today 2K announced via their official Twitter account that a new in-house development team Cloud Chamber would be taking the BioShock franchise on board, and are working on the next iteration which we unfortunately won’t get our hands on for several years.

Rocket Chainsaw did an experimental six-person review of BioShock Infinite at launch, which you can read here.

Series writer Ken Levine is not working on the new project with Cloud Chamber after officially bowing out from the franchise due to the health and relationship impacts he suffered while developing BioShock Infinite, however the development team is said to include several developers that have worked extensively on the previous BioShock games.

We founded Cloud Chamber to create yet-to-be-discovered worlds – and their stories within – that push the boundaries of what is possible in the video game medium,” said Kelley Gilmore, Global Studio Head, Cloud Chamber. “Our team believes in the beauty and strength of diversity, in both the makeup of the studio and the nature of its thinking. We are a deeply experienced group of game makers, including many responsible for BioShock’s principal creation, advancement and longstanding notoriety, and honored to be part of the 2K family as stewards of this iconic franchise.
